Making a Start

I am looking forward to studying Facilitating Online Communities as I think it will be useful both for facilitating online but also for facilitating in the Community Learning Centre (Alexandra) where I currently work.
Things I would like to gain from this course:
  1. Better facilitating skills.
  2. To improve my knowledge of online resources.
  3. To be able to use a range of online facilitating methods confidently.

I have facilitated online (mostly via skype but also in Discussion Boards). This course will help me to be better at facilitating online.

A great start Vida getting your blog up and running. Make sure you alert others in the "community" on the email forum that you are up and running so they can subscribe to your blog.

It would be interesting to find out what sort of community you feel the Community learning Centre staff could be described as.

Hi Vida
You have the beginnings of a great blog here! Let me know if you need any help with anything. I'd love to know more about how you use skype to facilitate. I've tried before, but it never really got off the ground.

Greetings
Illya

Hi Illya,
Thanks for that. Our Community Learning Centres are located in country towns as well as Dunedin (our closest city). It is economic and efficient to communicate by skype for us. There are 4 centres in the Dunedin area and 4 in Central Otago. We help each other with problems and send each other files by skype becasue it is convenient. There were new Facilitators in 2 of our centres so I spent quite a lot of time messaging them through problems or sending them files. We communicate every day using skype. FOC 08
